Number of dengue fever cases in Samui now considered an epidemic | Samui Times

It has been reported today that the numbers of those affected by dengue fever in Koh Samui is sufficient to consider it an epidemic. The government hospital has now had 62 reported cases, which exceed the standards set by the Ministry of Heath per 100,000 of the popluation. dengue fever hospitalBophut has had the highest recorded cases of 12, Maret 8 and Lipa Noi 6 in addition to those in other areas. The majority of cases have been found among construction workers. The hospital is now planning an outreach program to warn of the dangers of the disease as well as giving information on how to prevent it such as the use of mosquito replant during the daytime when the mosquito’s that carry the disease are most active. They hope these measures will result in a decrease of cases and the epidemic will soon be in decline.
