Overstay: American English teacher fell for Thailand and wouldn’t go home

77kaoded reported on the case of a 38 year old American who they said fell in love with Thailand and wouldn’t go home after his visa expired.

They said that the man was staying in a block of flats across from the Phan Phithayakhom School in Chiang Rai with his girlfriend.
Chiang Rai immigration moved to arrest him on Sunday after receiving information from Nakhon Ratchasima immigration that emanated from the American Embassy.
The media said that relatives of the man had contacted the authorities after they were concerned for his wellbeing.
He had applied for a job at the school near where he was staying.
He admitted to being on a 7 month overstay and will be deported.
77kaoded reported in their headline that he said “I rak Thailand” (I love Thailand) and that he was beguiled by the country.
