Thailand yesterday destroyed almost 500 million baht of pirated goods in the South to emphasise the country’s determination to rid of all copied items and commitment to tackle copyright violation seriously.

pirate goods phuketDeputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce Piramol Charoenphao chaired the event to destroy products in violation of intellectual property rights in the southern resort island of Phuket Friday.

The seized goods were provided by Police Region 8, Police Region 9, as well as the Customs Office Region 4, with all goods confiscated through prevention and eradication measures against pirated products in the country.

A total of 86,803 illegal items worth 495 million baht which included pirated CDs, DVDs, watches, clothing, purses, leather goods and shoes were burnt at the Phuket Municipality’s main waste incinerator.
