Phuket loan shark enforcers arrested

Four enforcers for a loan sharking operation in Patong were caught yesterday evening (July 31) by Tourist Police.
Investigators were tipped off by an informer that a group of men were collecting debts – and issuing threats to those who could not pay – around the intersection of Soi Kebsap and the beach road.
The informant said the men were charging 20 per cent interest a month and were going every day to collect payments. If borrowers were unable to pay they were threatened with violence.
The police had the informer wait for the enforcers, money in hand, while the officers waited close by.
When the informer paid the enforcers with a marked B500 note against his debt of B10,000, the police surrounded them.
One of the men was carrying a bag containing B22,540, includign the marked note.
The men admitted that they were working in the loan sharking business and went to the same place every day to collect interest from debtors.
Police named the enforcers as Wirat Jankampa, 20, Watchara Kongdee, 34, Anek Huaihongthong, 35, and Wichan Pumtakong, 23
