Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has voiced his concerns over the spread of dengue fever, following reports of a rise in dengue patients.

Public fears over the dengue fever outbreak have intensified after news that TV actor Tridsadee Sahawong was infected with the dengue virus and had to have his left foot amputated due to complications. According to his family, doctors have carried out additional surgery to contain the bleeding in his intestine. His condition has reportedly shown signs of improvement.

In response to the dengue scare, Gen Prayut cautioned the public to exercise caution by protecting themselves from mosquito bites and targeting the mosquito life cycle. Gen Prayut also warned the actor’s fans planning to visit him at the hospital to respect the privacy of other patients and safeguard their own health while in risk areas for dengue fever.

The disease has infected more than 110,000 people and killed more than 100, including a former Deputy Mayor of Samut Prakan province.
