In Khon Kaen lawyer Worapan Benjaworakul was asked to give information to the police regarding an alleged scam involving fake marriage registrations in Nong Bua Lamphu’s Non Sang district around six hundred Thai women’s names were sold to foreign men for immigration by marriage purposes.

Immigration Police inspector Pol Lt-Colonel Anan Thongsuk said that the police will be checking on foreign men involved in Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum and Maha Sarakham provinces.

Normally foreigners residing in Thailand on a one year marriage visa are required to report to the police with their wives every three months, however Anana said the married me in this case had not been reporting to the police so it the allegation may have some ground. A former registrar claimed that a female official at Tambon Non Sung Municipality asked him to sign marriage certificates after which she would give him one or two thousand baht. He went on to say that the official claimed to have been contacted by a Bangkok woman who wanted a list of names of Thai woman for marriage registration to foreigners he later discovered that the official was paid seventy thousand baht per case.
