Police officer stabbed in PTT shooting hailed a hero

Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Pornthep Pongsanuwat, the officer stabbed at the Chaweng Lake PTT station has been hailed a hero for his actions during an incident he was called to along with his colleague Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj Thanawat Choosom on July 20th.
The call out came when PTT staff alerted the police that a man, acting like a maniac, was threatening pump attendants with a knife. The two officers attended the scene and attempted to restrain Mr. Kosit Chaiphet who stabbed Pol.Sen.Sgt.Maj Thanawat Choosom, before snatching his gun and fatally shooting him. Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Pornthep Pongsanuwat went in pursuit of the man as he left the scene. When he attempted to arrest Chaiphet, he was stabbed in the chest, resulting in serious injury, and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment where he narrowly escaped with his life, but is now on the road to recovery.
Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Pornthep Pongsanuwat is now being applauded for his actions in attempting to arrest the assailant and for his services in the line of duty to the public and has been acknowledged by his colleagues and superiors as a hero, a police officer with a true sense of responsibility and a shining example of the Thai police force on duty around the country.
