Police raid tourist areas and arrest tourists not carrying passports | Samui Times

On Feb 18th one hundred police officers raided an area in the Yellow entertainment complex in Chiang Mai. During the raid, that took place at around 10pm the police stopped anybody entering of police raidsleaving the area by roping it off with police tape. Police, some of whom had assault rifles, proceeded to arrest tourist who were not carrying their passports and urine tested others for drugs. None of the party goes tested positive for drugs and no weapons, drugs or dangerous items were found on those apprehended. The immigration police found no evidence of anybody concerned being on overstay, however the tourist who were not in possession of their passports were taken to Chaing Mai police station and processed.

In Pattaya more than one hundred officers raided nightclubs in the early hours of Friday morning and took dozens of foreigners who were not carrying passports to the station. Five venues were targeted in the raids, all of them in the red light area. Those taken in were given criminal record checks and released once they presented their passports to police officers.
