Police seize 313 kilos of cannabis headed for Koh Phangan

North Eastern cops intercepted a large consignment of ‘Grade A’ marijuana worth ten million baht headed for use by tourists in Koh Phangan, Phang Nga Province Thursday.
But the driver of the vehicle managed to flee the police and escape.
Acting on a tip off that a large quantity was heading from a neighbouring country via the Mekong River into Thailand police on the Nakhon Phanom – Mukdahan road lay in wait.
The Isuzu with Bangkok plates showed up but when they ordered it to stop the driver managed to swerve round a truck. He crashed into a roadside klong but managed to flee.
A one hour search of the area failed to find the driver.
In the pick up officers found 313 kilos of compressed ganja worth 1.5 million baht at source and up to 10 million if reaching it’s destination.
The drugs were hidden behind a false label disguised as fertiliser. Police believe the drugs were headed for the tourist market down south for use during the upcoming Songkran festival.
