When the weekend finally rolls around and you are ready to treat yourself and your taste buds to some well deserved culinary delights or have been out on the tiles into the early morning hours there is perhaps no greater pleasure than indulging yourself in that time honoured, decidedly decadent Bacchanalian feast, the Sunday brunch.
At Prego, executive chef Marco Boscani has created the most divine selection of deliciously tempting dishes, with his redoubtable Italian flair, and put together a fabulously well thought out spread that truly is a sight to behold. After many months of frustrating delays concerning the previewed renovations at Prego, we are happy to report that the project is now complete and the results speak for themselves. The vast yet comfortably welcoming terrace has been superbly transformed with chic modern furnishings and fabrics, there is a brand new state of the art and beautifully crafted wood burning Pizza oven and the newly constructed, air conditioned private dining area mirrors the one already in existence adding a sense of symmetry and harmony to the whole restaurant. The quality of the craftsmanship and the high tech materials employed simply shine from every minute detail, from the massive timber beams to the subtly concealed lighting, these vibrant elegant surroundings all make for a thoroughly relaxing dining experience and no better environment in which to appreciate Prego’s newly introduced Sunday brunch extravaganza.
The food choices avaiable are astonishing in their variety. Presented in a buffet style the starter courses include; a wonderfully quirky do it yourself Caesar salad where you can mix the ingredients to suit your taste, vine ripe scarlet tomatoes on generous slices of homemade mozzarella, Artichoke hearts drizzled with virgin Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar, some of the plumpest green lipped Mussels and Clams I have ever seen lightly dressed with a piquant pesto sauce nestled together amongst the platter of firm and tender pink Prawns and fresh Anchovies and a selection of Quiches including Spinach or tangy cheese where the crumbly short crust pastry really does melt in the mouth. All of this accompanied by your choice from the incredible basket of crusty home baked rolls, baguettes and artisanal loaves all lovingly made with only the finest stoneground flour.
The choice of main dishes is no less inviting, bubbling mini cauldrons of Pasta al Forno, Chicken Roulade, Lamb stew or Chef Marco’s classic take on the ubiquitous oven baked Lasagne all vie for your attention in this head turning culinary display of expertise in the art of presentation and content. The showstopper however, among all these worthy contenders, is the magnificent slowly roasted Sucking Pig cooked so that the tender meat remains moist and succulent but the golden hued crackling does just that, crackle.
Should you have a little room left for dessert the hugely tempting shot glass gems on offer include; Cannoli with Ricotta, Panna Cotta and two wickedly tempting chocolate creations, the Chocolate Creme Brulee and the Fudge Brownie Cheesecake. As if that wasn’t enough there is also a delectable cheese platter comprising of various carefully chosen cheeses, smoked, firm, crumbly or a stunning wheel of perfectly ripe Brie that was having a hard time containing itself on the plate it was that relaxed.
This whole feast can be accompanied by an astounding array of wines from around the world from Prego’s very complete and extensive wine cellar offering some of the best ceppages from the world’s great vineyards. Add to this a very accomplished duo of Thai musicians setting the ambience with mellow background music to while away the gently passing afternoon and you really have the makings of a fabulous Sunday treat. Chef Marco has gone particularly out of his way to make sure that this really can be a family orientated event with a specially conceived Juniors Menu with all the kids favourites including; fresh filled sandwiches, chicken nuggets, breadcrumbed fish fingers, frankfurters and crunchy french fries, all of which are homemade, no artificial nonsense here, with the same care that goes into the adult choices so you can be certain that your children are nourished to a very high standard. Once the kids have finished their meals and you need a little space to chill, Prego has that covered as well. A magnificently appointed Kids Club is equipped with plenty of options for children of all ages, books, games, toys, computer consoles and a very user friendly outdoor area with swings and slides, all monitored by a highly qualified child minder professional to give you peace of mind while you enjoy the rest of your self indulgent Della Dominica.
Prego Sundays, where time stands still for an afternoon of pure and total gastronomic enjoyment. Do you brunch?, if not why not?, you and your family are almost certainly worth it.
