Qantas partners with ’boutique’ Bangkok Airways

Qantas will partner with Thailand’s Bangkok Airways on codeshare flights from Bangkok and Singapore beginning March 30. The routes include Singapore to Ko Samui plus Bangkok to Ko Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Krabi.
“This partnership is great news for our customers travelling to resort destinations in Thailand” said Qantas International CEO Simon Hickey.
“The new codeshare services will allow customers to connect to their holiday destination via Bangkok or Singapore, with more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points and have their luggage checked straight through to their final destination.”
The privately-owned Bangkok Airways styles itself as “Asia’s boutique airline” and flies mainly on domestic routes within Thailand, although it also extends to regional ‘international’ destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Maldives, India (Mumbai) and Bangladesh (Dhaka).
Bangkok Airways’ fleet of 23 aircraft includes six Airbus A320s, nine of the smaller Airbus A319s plus eight ATR72 turboprops.
On selected flights, passengers in Bangkok Airways’ Blue Ribbon business class are offered iPad mini tablets preloaded with latest-release movies, TV shows and music along with various interactive games.
Travellers on the codeshare services will be able to choose between clocking up points with Qantas Frequent Flyer or Bangkok Airways’ FlyerBonus scheme.
