Remembrance service for tsunami victims held in Phuket

On the 26th of December a ceremony took place to mark the ninth anniversary of the 2004 Asian tsunami that affected Thailand six Andaman provinces.
The remembrance started with Tambon Mai Khao Administration Organization hosted inter-religious rites in Phuket’s Thalang district.
Fifty officials from local bodies, representatives of the US Consulate General in Phuket and relatives of those who were killed or are still missing in the disaster attended the Buddhist, Islamic and Christian rites at the Tsunami wall. Wreaths were laid at the wall which has been painted white and now features the names and flags of the forty five countries whose nationals died in the tsunami.
An evening of remembrance service called Light Up Phuket , took place for some eight hundred people who died in Phuket. In Loma Park people lay wreaths and light candles for those who were lost in the disaster. Activities took place to boost the morale of those who suffered from the deadly waves and lessons were giving on how to protect yourself in such a disaster. The importance of early warning systems was also highlighted.
