Residents of Trang offered money to kill rats

Health officials in Trang province faced with an infestation of rats have come up with a unique idea to solve their rodent problem, pay the people to kill the rats.
With rodent population numbers spiraling out of control a survey conducted in 26 of Trang’s communities estimated that during the wet season the population may edge to over 43,000 according to Dr Witthaya Phrommee, the chief of the municipal health and environment division.
In a move to resolve to rat population a bounty of 10 baht per dead rat is now available to all of the citizens. It is expected that the new scheme will see at least 10,000 rats caught, so far bounties have been paid on 1,000 dead rats
