Road collapse in Chinatown did not affect the MRT tunnel

Around 2pm on Wednesday 26th a road collapsed in Bangkok’s Chinatown area, however the underground tunnel for the MRT’s Blue Line extension remained intact according to Chadchart Sittipunt the Transport Minister.
After the road surface on the Charoenkrung Road in front of the Leng Noei Yi Temple collapsed it left a large crater about 25 centimeters at the construction site of the MRT Blue Line Extension rout. However workers were instructed by supervisor Kamol Mahaphon dig deeper to find out what caused the collapse. It was established that a huge water leak was the cause.
Kamol said that the relevant officials including the Metropolitan waterworks authority had been contacted. Chadchart said that the MRT tunnel that is still under construction twenty five meters underground had not been damaged in anyway.
Pisitchanon Niwattanakul from the Leng Noei Yi Temple’s board reported that the road surface collapse had not affected the temple in anyway.
