ROTARY TO THE RESCUE – PHASE 2 Rebuild – Report on Delays

Following the very successful and dynamic undertaking by the Rotary Club of Koh Samui and the local community to provide the replacement necessities of life
to the displaced families of the Chaweng Fire, our club, under the leadership of President Warunee, has agreed to undertake the construction of several new
houses to replace those destroyed by fire.
Already the previous residents and the local Thai Community have undertaken the clearing of the site and removal of the rubble.
Due to the overwhelming generosity of “The Friends of Rotary” and the local community as well as a pledge by the Thai Army
to undertake the construction works, we were well placed to undertake this project when the flooding disaster struck us.
After all this time, a meeting between the Army and President Warunee confirmed that they have cleared their load from flood
damage and were available to commence these works this month.
A pre-construction site inspection reveals that we have been unlucky one more time!!
The entire Soi has been closed while major civil works are undertaken to install a major drain to the river. No
date for completion is available.
