On Sunday two Russian men were arrested in Mae Hong Song for breaking into a temple and dressing up as Buddhist monks. The police got a call from the abbot of Wat Mae Yen temple asking for help with the two foreign men who were sitting inside the wat with knives on their laps. The men were taken away by the police but when one of them was lead from his holding cell at Pai Police station to go to the immigration department he stabbed Lt. During the attack the man was held down by other police and the other suspect so the injured police officer could be taken to hospital. The attacker will now be charged with attempted murder as well as damaging the temple, for which the men are having money wired from Russia to pay for the damage.
