Russian who posed as Thai cop to defraud Thai woman arrested in Pattaya

Immigration police swooped at The Vision Condo on Pratumnak Hill yesterday to arrest a 31 year old Russian national who they say defrauded a Thai woman out of millions of baht.
Oleg Kabanov was taken to Khok Khram police station.
Police there received a complaint back in June 2017 from a 61 year old Thai woman who said she had been swindled in a call center scam.
Police allege that Kabanov posed as a Department of Special Investigations officer to defraud the victim who was persuaded to transfer money to many accounts as part of a bogus crime investigation.
She transferred a total of 4,363,160 baht to various accounts using a Bangkok Bank ATM at The Walk in Nawamin City Avenue in Bangkok.
Kabanov was using an account at the Krung Sri bank branch at Jomtien Beach. A warrant for his arrest was issued at the beginning of May.
He has been charged with fraud, making false representations and using fake documents through the internet.
Thai Rath reported that he was arrested by Chonburi immigration police in the car park of the condominium yesterday.
