The Samui Rotary Club have decided to close. The following letter has been sent to the members.
It is with regret and sadness that we must announce the closure of the Rotary Club of Koh Samui. Over recent years, like many Rotary Clubs around the World, our membership has fallen, and we have been unable to recruit sufficient new members who are willing to become involved in the day to day activities required to help those less fortunate in our community. As the membership has decreased, so the work level of those remaining has increased, and it has now reached an unsustainable level.
The club will formally close at the end of the Rotary year on the 30th June 2018. Following this date, we will publish formal audited accounts as we have always done, these will be available to view upon request. In the meantime, we will be inactive except for the allocation of existing funds as detailed below.
Our last public event was the Fellowship Dinner at The Pavilion on the 30th March. No further dinners or events will be held by the club.
We now have funds available of approximately 650,000 Baht. This needs to be given to projects for completion on Koh Samui as the club closes. We are aware that some funds that have recently been donated, were given for a specific project / cause, that cannot now be completed. These donors will be contacted directly and asked if they would like their donations returned, or whether they are happy for the club to re-assign those funds.
As time is of the essence – we have been in contact with the managers at the Nathon Hospital, and have identified the urgent need for a child’s incubator / resuscitation unit. The purchase of this will use nearly all the funds available. Any remaining funds will be allocated for smaller purchases at the hospital until all funds have been exhausted. Any equipment we own and stocks of T-shirts etc … will be given to local schools or charities.
May we thank the many friends, and business partners that have supported us over the last 15 years, without whom none of our work would have been possible.
The Rotary Club of Koh Samui.
