A report from the National news Bureau of Thailand confirms that the holiday atmosphere continues across the southern province of Surat Thani, especially on the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.

According to reports the ferry pier on Samui was crowded with departing tourist waiting to head back to Surat Thani after the New Year however, a large number of tourist both Thai and from overseas are extending their stay and are expected to remain on the islands until the 5th of January.

samui touismAs well as large numbers of tourist in Samui and Phangan other destinations in Surat Thani province are enjoying an extended high season, such as Khao Sok National Park and the Ratchaprapha Dam.

The local office of the Professional Tourist Guide Association of Thailand pointed out that despite the political turmoil, a relatively high tourist arrival number was recorded in Surat Thani over this New Year period. The office, therefore, urged all sides to quickly resolve the current conflicts together, otherwise the tourism atmosphere during the approaching Chinese New Year would be impacted
