Scarecrow making contest held in Chiang Rai

Residents from 175 villages in Phaya Mengrai district have reportedly entered the competition, sending more than 300 scarecrows of various shapes and sizes to the event.
Chiang Rai Governor Boonsong Techamanisatit praised the contest as a creative way to recycle unused hays instead of burning them and causing air pollution. He is hopeful that the event would gain more popularity in the future, and serve as one of the province’s attractive activities for tourists.
The Chiang Rai administration expected the contest would also promote recycling and preserve the local wisdom of scarecrow making among agriculturalists.
