Security beefed up around the Full Moon party

On August 20th at 18-30 Pol. Bri. Gen Jumnot Kaewkhao, Superintendent of the Koh Samui Police Station at Nathon, added extra police to his line up in preparation for the Full Moon Party.
The National Police Agency, responsible for the security of tourists and the general public, have recognized the importance of tourism especially in Koh Samui and want to avoid criminal events that in the past have produced a bad image for tourism on the island. Bad publicity around the Full Moon Party in the past has lead to a lack of confidence among tourists for their personal safety, an image that the police department want to change. A unit of extra policemen as well as volunteer police officers were mobilized to take care of visitors and their security.
Road side check points were set up to aid the police in cracking down on drugs and weapons in an effort to boost the confidence of visitors and residents of the island. The police and volunteer police lineup will be on hand before, after and during the party to lend assistance to anybody requiring help.
