Shock! Human remains found in temple urn – but these are no ashes!

Police were called to a temple in Samut Prakarn after human remains were found in a damaged stupa used as reliquary for human remains.
But what a building contractor found were not ashes but a skull and twenty other bones stuffed in a cloth.
No attempt had been made to cremate them.
There had been an accident during construction of a roadway at the temple of Wat Thong Ram Phai in Laem Fa Pha sub-district. A wheel came off a truck carrying sand and smashed into the stupa revealing the dark secret.
Police were called for an inspection and decided that the remains were probably very old. They could have been someone washed up on the seashore and put there because there were no relatives.
Still, they told the temple to keep the remains for 90 days in case some missing person file could be closed.
After that the temple will dispose of them according to Buddhist ritual.
