Siriraj wants to keep the King’s room at the hospital as a museum

The Siriraj hospital will seek an approval from the Bureau of the Royal Household to turn a room on the 18th floor of the Chalerm Phrakiat building where His Majesty the King was given medical treatment during his hospitalization into a museum.
Dr Prasit Wattanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicines, Mahidol University, said Wednesday that he also intended to seek the Bureau’s consent to build a statue of the late King at Siriraj hospital.
All the souvenirs and gifts given by the King to the hospital will be put on show in the museum, he added.
Currently, the hospital boasts a statue of Prince Mahidol, the father of HM the King who was reputed to be the “Father of Thai Medicines”.
On Thursday, Siriraj hospital will hold a merit making ceremony on the ground in front of Prince Mahidol’s statue. The management and staff of the hospital will offer food to 89 monks.
As of October 21, chanting of prayers will be held every day from 3 pm-4 pm except weekends and public holidays at Sala Siriraj 100th pavilion. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
