Sixteen dead in a car accident in Buriram

Sixteen people have died in a horrific accident in Buriram’s Ban Dan district 300 kilometers from Bangkok. The accident occurred when the driver of a pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel and smashed into a tree. Fifteen of the passengers died at the scene, the other died shortly afterwards in hospital. One of the victims was pregnant. Eight further passengers, believe to be manual workers returning home after working in Bangkok, were seriously injured. One amphetamine tablet and a half finished bottle of whiskey was found on the driver of the vehicle, who also died, he was twenty four years old. Police Colonel Sutheee Seatthawong, commander at the local police station said that the road conditions had been good at the time of the accident.
