On Monday night the estranged girlfriend of Mr. Manuel Gallardo Garcia, 53, put in an emergency call to the Pattya police after discovering the body of Mr. Garcia on the floor of his apartment.

Khun Chutimar, 47, told the police that she and Mr Garcia had been in a relationship for eleven years but had recently split up. Despite their separation the pair, who have a daughter together, had remained on good terms. Khun Chutimar became concerned when she had not heard from Mr Garcia, who was in daily contact with her. Worried about his wellbeing she went to his room at a central Pattaya apartment building only to discover his bathroom door was locked. When she looked through the grill she saw the body of Mr Garcia on the floor and immediately called for help.

Police and medics rushed to the scene and established that the man had been dead for around twelve hours. The incident may have been caused by intoxication according to police investigators who discovered that the recent split from his girlfriend had resulted in Mr Garcia drinking heavily. The death of the man, who suffered a fatal head injury, has been recorded as accidental, however a post mortem examination is expected to reveal the exact cause of death.

The Spanish Embassy have been informed of the death
