Surat Thani ferries meet international standards according to the Marine Department

On the 24th of April The Marine Department will take members of the press to inspect ferries in Surat Thani after confirming that Thai ferries meet international standards.
Director-General of the Marine Department Sornsak Saensombat has ensured safety for ferry passengers in Thailand, saying that the boats, safety equipment and crew had standards approved by international bodies.
There are twenty five ferries throughout Thailand at the present time, most of them operate in the coastal provinces of Surat Thani and Trat, together they provide services to over 1.3 million passengers a year.
The Marine Department has launched the model of ship management and safety called the “Pattaya Model” to be introduced to many tourist destinations throughout Thailand.
The department has also called on ferry operators to make a safety instruction video and play it for the passengers when the ferry leaves the port.
