Swedish con man arrested after claiming he was robbed at knife point in Chiang Mai

A Swedish man has been arrested after police discovered he lied about being the victim of an armed robbery in Chiang Mai.
Keny Andres Parra Bobadilla, 35, had told police he was approached by a gang of three men, one of whom was supposedly armed with a knife, as he walked along Chang Klan Road at around 11pm on Thursday evening.
He told police that the gang stole his brown leather back which he said contained a HP notebook computer, a mobile phone, 25,000 baht in cash and a credit card. He also said the gang stole headphones and a gold ring he had been wearing at the time.
However, police became suspicious of Mr Bobadilla’s story when CCTV images from the area revealed nothing unusual.
On Friday, tourist police ten searched Mr Bobadilla’s room and discovered all the items he had previously claimed were stolen.
After further questioning and with few other options the Swedish con man allegedly confessed to police that he said he had been robbed in order to claim on his insurance, Thairath reported.
The man remains in custody and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
