Tar like substance washing up on Samui beaches thought to crude oil

A tar like substance that has washed up on the beaches of Chumpon, Surat Thani, Koh Samui and Nakhon Si Thammarat has raised concerns about marine life and coastal ecosystems. Walailak University lab tests point to this substance being crude oil. The university’s president Keerath Sanguansai urged the authorities to locate the source quickly in order to minimize the negative impact to marine life. Nakhon Si Thammarat has reported 11 dolphin deaths that were likely related to the crude oil.
