A Thai schoolboy is lucky to be alive after his neck became impaled on a spike.

boy-survives-neck-impalmentThe incident happened when Tharathep Wanacharoenlap, 11, was climbing over a three metre high gate as he went to visit a friend in Chachoengsao.

The gate was wet due to recent rain and as he climbed he slipped, resulting in an 8 inch rusty spike plunging into the side of his neck.

Miraculously, the the spike missed vital arteries but poor Tharathep was left impaled for more than 10 minutes before a passer by raised the alarm.

When rescue workers arrived they the cut Tharathep from the gate and rushed him to hospital with the spike still sticking out of his neck.

Tharathep spent the night in hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
