Thai hero who rescued tourists to get top honor

Chat Ubonjinda, the 44 year old Krabi man who rescued a Norwegian couple stuck in riverside mud will be conferred with “Seu Samart” (honorary jacket) by HRH Princess Bajra Kitiyabha at a ceremony this Friday. During his visit to Bangkok he will also have the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Chat Ubonjinda flew to the capital on an Air Asia plane yesterday, officials from the Krabi red cross had to give him medical aid to help him with back pain caused by an injury he sustained during the rescue after he allowed the tourists to step on his back to escape the mud.
To thank him for his selfless act of bravery the Krabi Provincial Electric Authority will take care of a temporary electric meter shared by Chat’s families five adjoining houses and a power bill that totals almost 10,000 Thai baht a month, the Muang Krabi Municipality will honor him by building a public road to lead to his home in order for electricity poles to be erected.
