Thai inmate fatally beaten up in jail was given medical treatment says prison chief

Krisana Jeungjareon, had been detained at the Thanyaburi district detention facility for 42 days when he was fatally beaten up. Yesterday Chief Channarong Chanlikhit of the Pathum Thani central detention center insisted that he was given medical help in time after the event.
His comments came in response to claims that the man, who was serving a prison term instead of paying a 200 baht fine a day for drunk driving had not been taken to hospital in time, claims that have escalated on social networks. However Channarong Chanlikhit strongly refuted those claims insisting that the facts had been twisted. He said in a statement that Krisana had become agitated and picked a fight with several other inmates who had beaten him up in retaliation on the 7th of March, the man was then taken to Thanyaburi Hospital at 1am he said. He went on to say that the doctor at the hospital said that the inmate had only sustained bruises to his face and broken nose and as he was capable of communicating he was given some medicine and returned to the detention facility.
Two days later the man was found dead in his cell at 10am. His body was then transported to the Thammsat halermphrakiat Hospital in Rangsit where an autopsy revealed he had died from subdural hematoma and acute heart failure. Channarong said that a committee had investigated seven other inmates about the attack and sent them to court, two further individuals are also under investigation in relation to the case.
