Thailand to host the 2014 Asian Youth Amateur Boxing Championships

Thailand has been chosen to host the 2014 Asian Youth Amateur Boxing Championships and the 2015 Asian Men’s Amateur Boxing Championships. Executive director of the Asian Boxing Confederation Aziz Kozhambetov and President of the Thailand Boxing Association confirmed yesterday that the tournaments had been officially confirmed. Kozhambetov said “ we chose Thailand because of their great commitment to the interest in hosting these two tournaments. Although there were two other offers from countries in East and West Asia I am happy with the commitment of the Thai Boxing association. I have inspected the venue and hotels and also the transportation and I am very happy with them.” Both tournaments will be held at the indoor Stadium, Hau Mark.
He also confirmed that giving Thailand the right to host the tournaments was not some sort of consolation for the failed bid to host the 2015 championships.
The youth tournament will be staged in January next year, the date for the Asian Championships has yet to be confirmed.
Kozhambetov said that more than 150 boxers from 25 countries are expected to compete at the youth event because many countries are working hard to cultivate their young fighters so they can compete for medals at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
