Thailand prepared to become world jewelry hub

The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) has prepared to drive Thailand into becoming a world jewelry hub.
GIT Director Phornsawat Watthanakul disclosed that the GIT has prepared measures to push Thailand to be the world’s jewelry hub and that the cabinet has recently agreed on reducing import duties on gems and jewelry.
The operation plan will focus on the supply of raw materials from East Africa and ASEAN member countries such as Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The GIT has also cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize trade cooperation especially with Mozambique and Madagascar as the world’s major sources of gems and developed human resources and knowledge of new production pattern through research by universities and related organizations.
