Popular Irish Bar in Soi Reggae Chaweng enjoyed taking part in the Valley National Eight Ball Association Pool league last month that took them to Phuket to the semi finals.
Eight teams from Koh Samui took part in the competition, Thairish, Boom Boom Bar, Five Ways Bar, Cap Bar, two teams from the Ark Bar, The Duke and the Billabong Lamai.
The Samui Times caught up with Thairish proprietor Shadow to find out how he got into the completion and why he and his team enjoyed it so much.
The Valley National 8-Ball league Association is one of the world’s largest amateur pool leagues with more than 100,000 members. The organization was funded in the United States in 1979 by equipment manufacturer Valley-Dynamo as well as the Valley 8-Ball League Association.
The VNEA 8 Ball Pool League Season 2, organized by Thailand Pool Tables, started in the last week of September 2014 in Samui. Of course it will come as no surprise to discover that only teams with a Valley Pool table are able to enter the comp and Shadow told the Samui Times how utterly impressed he was with the service he received from Samui Pool Tables who serviced his table before each match.
Having got through the Samui rounds with team mates Ian, Don and Paul it was off to Phuket to take part in the quarter finals in Phuket town and rub shoulders with the big boys whose skills at the pool table are on a whole different level. “The standard of play was ****ing phenomenal” Shadow told us “it was a really superb experience”. Another aspect of taking part in the competition that Shadow said he was particularly impressed with was how truly international the competition was with players from all over the world. And even though Shadow and his team did not make it into the semi finals or end up with all expenses paid tickets to Las Vegas they are still very glad they took part and no doubt are all looking forward to the next competition. The Samui Times would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to Shadow and his team for not only getting into such a prestigious international completion but getting all the way to Phuket.
