We all need, and deserve, some serious pampering from time to time. Whether you live on the island and need a few hours to get away for it all to relax and rejuvenate or whether you are visiting the island and want to take in the best rest and relaxation therapies the island has to offer, there can be no better way of being good to yourself than treating yourself to a few hours away from it all to enjoy some spa treatments.
This is the ultimate place to indulge for several reasons. Not least being location, to say that it is picture perfect is something of an understatement, the word spectacular comes to mind as you take in the sweep of the picturesque bay after a short ride by buggy from the reception area. White sands and the azure blues of the ocean are really quite breathtaking in an area free of boat traffic and any sign of the main road.
The Cave Rai Ra Beach Spa, is, as the name suggests, in a cave, well more of a labyrinth of caves really, and is completely unique in its construction. Not only does this incredible design offer intrigue, but privacy and some welcome relief from the heat of the day. As you wind around this incredible underground world you will find waterfalls, plants, ponds, pools, treatment rooms, showers, vanity tables packed with everything you could ever need and endless little touches that make this oasis as special as it could possibly be.
It is hard to imagine a more friendly welcome from the smiling spa team who waste no time making you feel comfortable and, if you have not booked already, help you choose from a sublime list of temping treatments to get you back in balance.
We arrived to enjoy the Shiva Ashram Package, three hours of indulgence that started off with a cool and refreshing Thai herbal tea. We enjoyed the entrée to our experience taking cool sips overlooking the ocean from the cool atmosphere of the cave that is infused with the delicious smells of herbs and oils, if there is truly a heaven it is hard to imagine it being far removed from this slice of paradise.
Tea enjoyed we were then taken to our treatment room, after a tour of the labyrinth of peace and tranquility. Here we found two treatment beds in a cozy, but very elegant cave, that opened onto a Jacuzzi pool backed by a wonderful waterfall that cascades down from above, the sun’s rays dancing playfully into the water. There is a separate shower and WC and a dressing table with oil, body lotion, brushes, combs, everything you need. We were given some flip flops and asked to change into cotton robes before being led away for a quick shower in its own cave with both rain shower and hand held shower options before sitting back to relax and sweat out our toxins in the Thai herbal Steam which is next to another waterfall and another tropical underground pond. The staff floated away to afford us some privacy, but left us a bell to ring should we need anything and popped back to check on us at regular intervals to encourage us to drink some water and take a refreshing shower if we got too hot. We felt safe and looked after and as if we had left all of our cares and worries firmly outside the welcoming caves.
When our steam was finished we went back to our treatment room and sank into a stunning Thai herbal Jacuzzi from where we could step into the cooling waterfall and gaze up at the hot Thai skies above through the hole in the top of the cave. The water was warm and infused with Kaffir Limes, ginger, galangal and Thai herbs that were gently brewing in an earthenware pot at the side of the bath over a naked flame waiting to be ladled into the water. By now we both felt as if we had died and gone to heaven, and neither of us were in any rush to be reincarnated.
After around thirty minutes we took a shower and donned our massage robes and lay on comfortable massage beds and took in the aromatic aromas that pervade the caves and listened to the gentle sounds of spa music and the waterfall in the background.
Two highly talented Thai therapists then went to work on us with magic hands, indulging our senses in 90 minutes of Royal Thai with Yoga massage that stretched and relaxed muscles in places we were previously unaware we had. Constantly checking we were happy with level of pressure we left the world behind and found our own inner sanctum. From there we progressed to the most incredible Aroma Hot Stone massage performed with specially made aromatic oils. The stones and the oils stimulate the blood circulation and nourish our skin, already glowing from steams and herbal baths and totally removed every last ache and pain we had ever experienced. The heat of the stones was perfect to the last degree and everything about this experience was done professionally and afforded us the utmost dignity even through the last 90 minutes of being robe free.
As the experience drew to a close and we were taken to chill out in the relaxation zone in our cave that now felt like home, it is fair to say that we felt brand new, pampered, toned and realigned. Feeling thoroughly regenerated we enjoyed more of that delicious herbal tea before meandering our way down to the beach were we enjoyed dinner on those powdery white sands.
