The Night Sessions – two very talented musicians

On Thursday and Saturdays nights something very special happens in a secluded little cove on the south east cost of Koh Samui. The Sands restaurant at the Banyan Tree plays host to a feast, not only for your taste buds but also for your ears, when you are given the opportunity to dine to the heavenly sounds created by the Night Sessions duo.
Vocalist Pete McDowell and Guitar player Alex Rigley have been playing music together for the last ten years. Their unique sound has been created by combining subtle, intricate guitar arrangements with dynamic soulful vocals.
The Night Sessions have a diverse repertoire that will delight music lovers of every age and nationality with hits from Soul classics like My Girl and Stand By Me to Amy Winehouse’s Valerie, tunes from legends like Elvis, the Beatles, Queen, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson to modern artists like Jason M’Raz and Goyte, and rock classics from Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to romantic hits such as Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World, Sting’s Every Breath You Take and More Than Words by Extreme to name but a few.
Pete and Alex are both from the UK and the combination of their skills is quite intoxicating.Alex who is self taught fell in love with music at a young age, Pete’s was a keen sportsman but once he found his vocal talent there was no turning back, his passion for music blossomed and took him to study music composition at University.
When they first met, Alex had a passion for Blues and Soul, where Pete was influenced by British Rock. During these early years their influences rubbed off on each other to create a playlist to suit any audience. The pair seems to interact on a subconscious level together, and effortlessly adjust to each other’s style. Pete’s voice is completely memorising and Alex has perfected a technique where his playing the guitar sounds as though he has been accompanied by a second guitarist, the result is astonishing.
The combination of showman Pete, and the more shy and retiring Alex, may have seemed like an unlikely combination when they met many years ago, but it is clear from their performances that this is a musical marriage made in heaven and any party, celebration, romantic meals or indeed weddings are greatly enhanced by their presence.
The UK may have now missed out on the talents of The Night Sessions but their loss is Koh Samui’s gain and no doubt, as now one of the most sought after acts on the island, we will be seeing, and indeed hearing a lot more of them in the future. For more information you can visit
