Udon Thani police were called by Nathamon the owner of the restaurant in Soi Prachanimit who said that this was the first time anyone had done such a thing at her place that she opened years ago.

The victim – Mr Martin, 68 – had been having a coffee with a couple of old mates when a man parked a motorcycle out front.

He was about 30-40, with a beard and a pierced left ear.

Police said that it appeared that the thief had been cruising around looking for a vulnerable old tourist to steal from.

They are studying CCTV in the area to try and get a lead in the case.
