Three southern provinces gear up for crisis management exercise

Southern provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Surat Thani and Songkhla are gearing up for the upcoming crisis management exercise set for next month.
Naknon Si Thammarat Provincial Governor Peerasak Hinmuangkao said the annual exercise codenamed ‘C-MEX 15’ was a necessary practice for policy-making agencies in seaside provinces as natural disasters were growing intense and unpredictable.
The activity, which is conducted in the form of Table Top Exercise, comprises a series of scenarios including a hijack of an oil ship, rescue of passengers in sinking boats and evacuation of people stranded on an island to a shore.
The objective of the project is to test and improve policy-makers’ abilities to coordinate with different agencies under various circumstances, and to command different life-saving operations. Results of the exercise will be incorporated into the production of rescue manuals.
The national crisis management exercise will take place between July 19 and 25.
