Tourists hurt in train derailment

In the second derailment in a month on the overnight train rout between Bangkok to Chiang Mai at least thirty passengers have been injured, one of them seriously. The passengers were mostly foreign tourists. Prapas Jongsanguan, State Railway of Thailand Governor, said the overnight train skidded off the tracks early on Wednesday morning in the Phrae province and seven out of ten carriages flipped onto their sides. Authorities believe the accident was caused by old tracks that had been scheduled for repair. Those with only minor injuries were given free transport to their destinations.
