Sanook said that evidence from CCTV was clear that two trainee low cost airline employees had stolen a plastic wallet from a German tourist who left it on a counter as he checked in for a flight to Bangkok.

Kritsada and Itthiphon, both 28, were arrested as they drove away in a car from the airport.

They said they were keeping the wallet safe to return the documents and items to the passenger. They claimed there was never any money in it.

They have been charged with theft or receiving stolen property at an airport at night – this charge carries a penalty of between one and seven years jail and a fine between 2,000 and 40,000 baht.

The incident happened at 9.20 pm on Friday said Pol Col Thongchai Wilaiphrom of the Krabi Tourist police investigating.
