On Monday 15th July the Tropical Murphy’s Monday Night Pool League games got underway around the island.
At Aussieland Barbs were taking a bit of a kicking. Team Captain T-bone went up first against Thomas and worked his usual magic, putting in an eight ball clearance in the first frame and taking the following two. Squiggles was next up to the table when he took on Geoff. Geoff got the upper hand in the first frame which he won, but Squiggles leapt on the opportunity to bring home the second point for the home team and won the next two frames. Carl then faced off against Bob and matched T-bone by wining all three frames. Duffman then took on Joe and won his first two frames bagging the point before losing the next frame to Joe. Barbs did not catch a break in the doubles either when Duffman and Carl took all three frames from Tom and Steve and Squiggles and Jeff took all three from Joe and Geoff, however despite only winning two frames all evening, and suffering a 6-0 defeat the Barbs team enjoyed some fun, banter and Aussieland hospitality including a feast of roast lamb, chicken and roast vegetables.
In Bangrak the Bamboo Bar took on the Thairish Bar. Nang got the balls rolling, moments after she arrived back on the island having been in Bangkok watching the Man united v Singha All Stars game. Her opponent Shadow set the pace for the evening by winning two frames and the point for the away team. Yak then took on Ian, and put in some precision shots but missed the black leaving it lined up for Ian who potted it, Shadow pointed out a shot like that was a ‘get out of jail free’ for Ian! In the second frame both players put in some disappointing shots among the fantastic shots they are both known for. Yak took the second frame and Ian got the upper hand in the third bringing home the second win of the night for Thairish. Team captain Mark then took on Mike and showed his team what he was made of by winning all three frames. G.Force then took on David who played superbly well and won the third point for his team. In the doubles Mark and G.Force took on Dave and Mike, and Mark and Yak took on Shadow and Ian. Winning one a piece the Bamboo were left with a 2-4 defeat.
Up the road at The Premier Sports Bar some great games were being played against Chillin Bar. Team captain Ian got thrashed in all three of his frames by an enthusiastic AEK. Roger2 then took on Mats and won the first and third frame taking the score to 1-1. Stuart then showed his worth wining all three of his frames against Nico. Colin then took on Damien and got the score back to 2-2. In the doubles Dennis and Bill took on Damien and AEK. Damien played some great shots in the doubles that ensured Chillin won the first frame. In the second frame Bill put in a couple of fabulous shots that had the whole bar in rapturous applause and the second frame went to the home team. In the third frame Dennis put in a dramatic miscue before re-chalking up and putting in a big break. However Dennis felt frustrated at some of Bills shots and when the frame and hopes of winning went to Chillin Dennis, from Liverpool, told Bill, from London, he was ‘a silly old Southern git’. Stuart and Roger then took on Mats and Niko hoping to bring home a draw. But their hopes were dashed when Mats and Niko tookt he first two frames and a 2-4 for Chillin.
