Visa Amnesty Automatically Extended Till July 31

The automatic extension of a visa for stranded foreigners in Thailand continues until 31 July. The clause immediately covers all types of temporary visas without fees and the need to appear or request any paperwork at an immigration bureau.
The Ministry of Finance notice also confirms that foreigners holding a year visa do not need to report a period of 90 days to at least 31 July.
Foreigners with permanent resident permits who are currently out of the country do not need to worry about returning within the year indicated in their re-entry permit. The period of validity of their permanent residence has been extended until further notice.
At some point, however, the Immigration Bureau will announce a revised timeline to close the concession for permanent residents once the Covid-19 emergency has ended and commercial international flights have resumed.
Extending the service to 31 July is a welcome gesture to thousands of foreigners who will need to extend their visas.
International flights to Thailand are currently prohibited until 30 June. Foreigners stranded in the country will not be able to book a home flight until July, when airlines return, but the extension of their stay gives them more leeway to secure a home flight without worrying about the expiry of their visa.
