Wednesday Covid Update: 141 deaths and 11,252 new cases

Today, 11,252 new Covid-19 cases and 141 coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration. Since April, in the most severe wave of the virus in Thailand, 1,482,494 people have tested positive for Covid-19.

In the 24-hour period since the last count, the CCSA has recorded 13,695 recoveries. There are now 129,071 people being treated for Covid-19.

Out of the new cases reported today, 1,391 were found through proactive case finding and a significant decrease of 28 infections were detected at correctional facilities. Thailand’s prisons and detention centres have reported Covid-19 infections on a daily basis, infecting now more than 67,000 inmates, according to Thailand’s Department of Corrections.

Other updates…

  • The Thai cabinet is drafting a new disease control law to replace the Emergency Decree, which was imposed at the start of the pandemic last year and extended several times. The decree is set to expire this month.
  • According to the Thai government’s news bureau, the Interior Ministry has issued an urgent order to local authorities requiring that they be ready to begin vaccinating their student populations by the end of the month. The Pfizer vaccine is available for teenagers ages 12 to 18.
