Woman in Samui arrested for lese majeste amidst angry mob | Samui Times

On Sunday a woman from Lamai was arrested and charged with les majeste after an angry mob demanded the police take action over a post on her Facebook page that allegedly defamed the heir and regent.

samui-mob-1The post was made last Friday, the day after the death of the revered King of Thailand was announced.

While the woman has not been named the police have confirmed woman was arrested after violating Section 112 of the criminal code. They confirmed the post was in regards to the heir and the regent, not the late King.
The arrest came about as a direct result of an angry mob who descended on Bophut police station on Sunday demanding the woman be charged. The large crowd of several hundred people shouted angry insults at the woman, who was made to prostrate herself in front of a picture of the late King as an apology. The army were brought in, and the traffic was sealed off outside the Bophut Police Station. The video of the incident has been widely shared on Facebook.
