A worker was injured by a bomb explosion at an iron scrap factory

One worker at an iron scrap factory in Nonthaburi province was seriously wounded by an explosion when he tried to cut an old artillery shell with a blow torch.
The victim, 40-year old Somchai Chasa-nguan, was found lying on the floor of the spacious yard full of iron scraps. He sustained serious wounds on the face, body and hands and was immediately rushed to the provincial hospital by other workers in the factory.
Bang Bua Thong policemen and explosive ordnance disposal officials rushed to the factory in Soi Saengpratheep, Bang Bua Thong district, to investigate after they were alerted of an explosion incident by staff of the factory.
She claimed that she was not aware there are old artillery shells among the scraps otherwise she would not have allowed her workers to cut them up with blow torch.
Pol Col Annop Namnakha, superintendent of Bang Bua Thong police, said that, for the time being, no charges would be lodged against the owner of the factory until the completion of the investigation.
