A young British girl, Romany Mitchell has miraculously survived falling thirty feet off her balcony from her hotel room in Phuket.

The 21 year old girl had returned to her five star hotel alone after going out drinking with her friends who claim that her drinks were spiked. The staff in the hotel reported that she arrived at the hotel upset and crying for what would have been her first night it he establishment. At 3am she Romanyappears to have become disorientated and fell from her 3rd story balcony. She escaped with a badly injured ankle and is receiving physiotherapy at the local hospital.

The girl was in Thailand as part of her gap year after graduating from Edinburgh Napier University. Doctors there reportedly hailed her as “the miracle” for surviving the plunge. Her female travel companion said that she will be flown home later this week to receive treatment for her injuries back home.

Foreign Office officials yesterday renewed warnings to Brits travelling to Thailand after this latest in a series of balcony falls. In January, Lee Charie, 32, flew back to Britain with a section of his skull in his hand luggage after surviving a 22-foot fall on his head. He smashed the left side of his skull when he fell from the balcony on the island of Koh Tao in December last year. There are now calls for warnings to be put up at the Romany 2airport for tourists arriving to be made aware of the high incidence of balcony falls. A Foreign Office spokesman said: “Our message to everyone is to behave responsibly when they are staying somewhere that has a balcony. “Most incidents involve young people between the ages of 18 and 35 and whilst not always the case, alcohol often plays a part.”

In October the Samui Times received a letter from one of our readers questioning why there are so many incidents related to falls from balconies in Thailand, you can read the article Here
